Bhavani completed her Bachelors in Computer Engineering in India in 2002. She has 6+ years of IT work experience. She has 6 months of teaching experience in India. She is hard-working and passionate about her work. She is Indian. She is a mother of two beautiful girls. She likes hanging out with family and friends.

Anjelica Ramos
GUEST TEACHER
Anjelica is a senior undergraduate at the University of Rhode Island, graduating in May 2025 with a bachelor's degree in Public Health. She is currently working as a teacher assistant at the URI Child Development Center, located in Providence, RI. Anjelica is from Central Falls, RI, and is the daughter of two immigrant parents who are from Guatemala. She enjoys hanging out with family and friends, trying new restaurants, singing, going to church, and deepening her faith with God.

Genesis Dourant
GUEST TEACHER
Genesis graduated from Newbury College with a B.S. in Legal Studies and a Minor in Social Science in 2015. She previously worked as a Legal Assistant at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Providence and as an Assistant Paralegal and Business Immigration Support Specialist at a couple different law firms in Boston. She was born and raised in New York City and enjoys visiting her family there. Genesis loves spending quality time with her immediate and extended family, and she has two sets of twins!! She enjoys Summertime and traveling to new places with her kids, such as museums, beaches, and farms.

Arelys Figuereo
GUEST TEACHER
Arelys is a proud Latina woman of color. She is a proud immigrant, originally from the Dominican Republic, who brings cultural awareness, compassion, and strong leadership skills to work with students and families. She is a daughter and a mother, with a passion for helping young learners succeed. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership and Change from College Unbound and completed the Accelerated Elementary 1-6 program from RISPE. With over 18 years of experience in education, she has served in multiple roles including teacher assistant, one-on-one support specialist, reading support, substitute teacher, and classroom instruction. She is passionate about equity and student success. She loves celebrating students’ reading milestones and hears from former students who still thank her for sparking their love for learning. During her spare time she loves hiking, reading and spending quality time with her family.

Karla Leon
GUEST TEACHER
Karla graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She worked as a fourth-grade teacher in Providence for two years and continues to serve in education through substitute teaching. Born in the Dominican Republic, Karla moved to the United States at the age of five. She enjoys traveling and spending time with friends. In addition to her work in education, Karla is a real estate agent with a strong passion for helping individuals and families achieve homeownership.

Esther Mulamba
GUEST TEACHER
Esther graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 2023 with a B.A. in Secondary Education and a B.A. in English. She previously worked as a substitute teacher and substitute teacher assistant in the EP School District. Esther has also worked with nonprofits such as FHH for youth development programs in past summers. She was raised by immigrant parents from the Democratic Republic of Congo in East Providence, RI. Esther enjoys exploring major cities, strength training, and cooking for family and friends!

Sara Monteiro
GUEST TEACHER
Sara is a teaching artist, community organizer, and creative facilitator with experience in youth development, arts education, and culturally responsive programming. She is the creator and curator of OUTSPOKEN, a poetry and performance series centered on storytelling, culture, and community connection. She is a first-generation Cape Verdean American whose family lineage traces back to Cape Verde, including her great uncle, António Mascarenhas Monteiro, the country’s first democratically elected president. She is a proud mother of two preteen sons and is passionate about equity, cultural preservation, entrepreneurship, and community empowerment. Sara describes herself as a “Rubik’s Cube” — creative, layered, and always learning. She believes storytelling and the arts are powerful tools for helping young people build confidence, curiosity, and connection.

Ashley Muchiri
GUEST TEACHER
Ashley is currently a college student majoring in graphic design while also working as a behavioral specialist. She has always had a passion for working with kids and helping others with their needs, which is why she is considering pursuing a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health in the future. Outside of work and school, she is a proud Kenyan and will always carry her roots with pride. She is also a proud Christian, as she can’t forget whose hands are over her life. Honestly, what would one do without Jesus? Also a huge cat lover and will literally melt anytime she sees one. I enjoy traveling and doing anything that involves being creative.
