FALL 2010 COHORT FOCUS: BUILDING STRONG READING PERFORMANCE
No dry handouts, no boring power points, no advice removed from the classroom. Just real lessons from real classes by real practicing teachers.
Through Tipping Point Cohorts teachers use video observation to see targeted instructional strategies being used in a real classroom. Participants observe, discuss and try lessons in their own classroom in a process designed to support dramatic improvement in student reading performance. Cohorts meet once a month for 6 months -- in between sessions participants have access to on-line resources so they can watch videotaped lessons, download materials or e-mail other group members. All Tipping Point Cohorts will gather for a culminating dinner with a national expert on reading instruction.
Future cohorts will focus on math, classroom management, writing and other areas.
Groups: Grade-level cohorts will launch next Fall for teachers in K, 1, 2, 3 and 4th grades. Only 8-10 participants in each group.
Facilitators: Each Tipping Point Cohort is facilitated by an experienced, practicing classroom teacher who invites you into their classroom through video observation.
Meetings: Each group begins with an orientation meeting on a Saturday in September and then meets monthly for 5 more sessions on Thursdays after school. Healthy snacks are provided at each session.
Credits: 3 full credits or 45 CEUs toward your I-Plan.
Schedule: Cohort members will depend upon one another to attend all 6 sessions to ensure continuity and quality. Specific dates and times for Fall 2010 to be announced soon.
Approach: Our unique “Observe. Reflect. Try. Discuss. ” model is designed to allow teachers to observe instruction together and connect to a powerful community of peers.
Location: The Learning Community, Central Falls, RI (5 minutes North of Providence, RI)
Fee: $900 per participant for all 6 sessions, 4 units of study, other materials and access to on-line community. $100 discount for early bird registration.
